Cookie Policy

What we store on your device and why

Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how Africa Moto Tours ("AMT", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies such as localStorage on africamototours.com. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy. We keep this short on purpose: the site sets very few cookies, and nothing that tracks you is loaded unless you say yes.

1. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. localStorage is a similar browser feature that keeps small pieces of data on your device without sending them to a server with every request. We use both. Below, "cookie" covers both unless stated otherwise.

2. Strictly necessary and functional storage (no consent needed)

These are required for the site to work or remember a choice you made. They do not track you across other websites.

  • amt_consent (localStorage): remembers whether you accepted or declined advertising cookies. Kept until you clear your browser data.
  • amt_geo_currency (cookie, 30 days): a currency suggestion based on your browser language or country, set by our server so prices show in a sensible currency. It is not shared with anyone.
  • amt_currency (localStorage): the currency you picked in the currency selector. Kept until you clear your browser data.
  • amt_rates (localStorage, 1 hour): cached exchange rates so prices convert without a new request on every page.
  • Language: your language is part of the page address (for example /en/ or /fr/). We do not store it separately.

3. Advertising cookies (only with your consent)

If you click "Accept" in the cookie banner, we load Meta Pixel, an advertising measurement tool from Meta Platforms. It sets cookies such as _fbp and _fbc (up to 90 days) and tells Meta which pages you viewed, so we can measure our Facebook and Instagram advertising and show relevant ads. Meta may combine this with your Meta account if you have one.

If you click "Decline", or do nothing, Meta Pixel is never loaded and no advertising cookie is set.

You can read how Meta uses this data at facebook.com/privacy/policy and manage your ad settings at facebook.com/adpreferences.

4. Content loaded from third parties

Some content comes from other companies' servers. When it loads, your browser sends them your IP address and basic browser details, as with any web request. These services do not set cookies on our site.

  • Country flag images in the phone-number field of the booking form, served by flagcdn.com.
  • WhatsApp and social-network links open those services only when you click them, under their own privacy policies.
  • Exchange rates are fetched by our server from frankfurter.app, not by your browser, so no data about you is sent.

5. How to change your choice

  • Use the "Manage cookies" link in the footer of every page, or the button on this page, to reopen the banner and accept or decline again.
  • Declining after you had accepted stops further tracking and removes the Meta cookies we can reach. The Meta script itself stays until you reload the page.
  • You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the functional storage above will reset your currency choice but the site will still work.

6. Legal basis

We set advertising cookies only with your consent, as required by the EU ePrivacy rules and the GDPR for visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, by the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) in South Africa, and by Israel's Privacy Protection Law, which governs AMT. Strictly necessary storage is used on the basis of our legitimate interest in running the site. You can withdraw consent at any time as described above.

7. Changes and contact

We will update this page when the cookies we use change, and the "Last updated" date below will move. Questions about cookies or privacy: kerrenwolfin@africamototours.com.

Changed your mind? You can accept or decline advertising cookies again at any time.
