Everything you need to know before your African adventure
Licenses, Age & Experience
For our motorcycle tours, you must hold a valid motorcycle license that permits you to ride heavy bikes (equivalent to Category A in Israel/Europe) with at least one year of riding experience. In other tours when the bikes are smaller size CC such as 500cc or less, the license permit can be in A1 category in Israel/Europe. For 4x4 tours, a standard valid driver's license is required.
Yes. In Africa, it is mandatory to carry an International Driving Permit (the plastic/paper card issued by agencies like Memshi or Relay) alongside your original national driver's license. Please ensure both are valid for the duration of the trip.
Minimum Age: Drivers and riders must be at least 21 years old with a minimum of one year of experience. Maximum Age: For travelers aged 70 to 75, participation is subject to a medical clearance from a doctor and approval of the insurance provider. Our insurance coverage generally extends up to age 75. Minors: Travelers under 18 are welcome on 4x4 tours but must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
While we welcome riders of various levels, some of our routes involve technical off-road sections. We recommend that riders have at least basic off-road experience or have participated in an adventure riding course. During our "Pre-Trip Briefing," we discuss the specific difficulty of your chosen route to ensure it matches your skills. Please note that every tour has different skill levels and requirements, so please check the specific tour page you are interested in for the required riding experience.
Logistics & Flights
No. Our packages do not include international flights. This allows you the flexibility to choose your preferred airline, use frequent flyer miles, or extend your stay in Africa before or after the tour. However, we are happy to advise on recommended flight times to ensure you arrive in sync with the group's schedule. In specific tours when the starting point is different to the finishing point we do offer to use our traveling agent for more specific booking so there won't be any confusions and mistakes.
We've got you covered! AMT provides pre-arranged shuttles that will pick you up from the airport at a specific time and location coordinated before the trip. From the moment you land, our team ensures a smooth transition to the start of your adventure.
We believe in a "hassle-free" experience. Our comprehensive packages typically include: Top-tier rental vehicles (Motorcycles or 4x4s), quality accommodations (Lodges/Camps), expert guidance and support staff, fuel for the entire route (in some tours), national park entrance fees, airport transfers (shuttles), meals (as specified in your itinerary), domestic flights (as specified in your itinerary), route & planning, backup vehicle and driver, spare bike and trailer (in some tours), and exclusive assistance with flights, insurance, and visas.
Yes, most of our motorcycle tours can accommodate passengers. However, since some sections involve off-road riding, we recommend that both the rider and passenger have experience riding together in varied conditions. Alternatively, a partner can always join the adventure in one of our comfortable 4x4 support vehicles!
Fleet & Technical Support
We pride ourselves on providing only premium, late-model vehicles. Our fleet typically includes top-tier adventure bikes (such as the BMW GS series or other high end manufacturers) and fully-equipped 4x4 vehicles (like the Toyota Hilux) specifically built for African terrain. All vehicles are meticulously maintained to ensure maximum performance and safety throughout the journey.
Don't worry — you're never alone. Our tours are accompanied by a dedicated support team and a backup plan. If a vehicle has a technical issue that cannot be fixed on the spot, we work quickly to provide a solution or a replacement vehicle to ensure your journey continues with minimal disruption. Our guides are experienced in handling field logistics to keep the group moving.
The rental agreement is signed directly between you and the rental company, with AMT acting as the intermediary. As is standard with international rentals, a security deposit (equivalent to the maximum deductible) is held on your international credit card. You are responsible for any damage to the vehicle during the rental period. We strongly recommend purchasing "Deductible/Excess Refund Insurance" before the trip. This ensures that if any damage occurs, you can claim back the costs, allowing you to ride with total peace of mind.
Gear & Insurance
Safety and support are our top priorities. AMT requires all participants to purchase a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes coverage for Personal Accidents and Extreme Sports. Insurance must be purchased and sent to your guide — this allows our team to work directly with insurers who are already familiar with our routes and operations. In case of an emergency we will be in close contact with you and your insurance provider for a smooth and safe transfer of responsibilities from AMT to the insurance company.
For safety and comfort, we strongly recommend that riders bring their own personal gear (helmet, gloves, riding jacket, and boots). Gear that fits you perfectly is always the safest option. However, if you are unable to bring your own, please contact us in advance — we can often assist in arranging rentals for specific items through our local partners.
Preparation is key! Here are the essentials — Riding Gear: helmet, ventilated riding jacket, gloves, and sturdy boots. Clothing: light layers for the day, a warm fleece or jacket for the cool African nights, and a swimsuit for lodge pools. Protection: high-SPF sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, and effective insect repellent. Electronics: a universal power adapter (South Africa uses Type M/Type N plugs) and a power bank for your devices. Documents: a physical and digital copy of your passport, driver's license, International Driving Permit, and insurance policy.
Safety & Health
Your safety is our absolute priority. We design our routes to avoid high-risk areas and stick to paths we know intimately. Regarding Wildlife: we travel through areas with wild animals, but we follow strict safety protocols. As long as you follow the guides' instructions — staying in the vehicle when required and maintaining a respectful distance — the experience is incredibly safe and awe-inspiring. Regarding Personal Safety: as locals who grew up in the region, we understand the landscape and social dynamics perfectly. We only stay at vetted, secure accommodations and use trusted local partners.
We are prepared for the unexpected. Our guides are trained to handle field logistics, and our support team is always in communication. In the event of a serious injury or illness, we have established emergency protocols. This is why we insist on specific insurance coverage, which includes professional medical evacuation services to ensure you reach the best possible care as quickly as possible. We also use Garmin and their Search & Rescue services to provide safe and fast treatment. All guides are trained to deal with emergency situations, following strict protocols and procedures.
Vaccinations: We strongly recommend visiting a specialized travel clinic (like those at major hospitals) at least 6–8 weeks before your trip. They will provide the most up-to-date advice regarding vaccinations and malaria prevention based on the specific regions we visit. Physical Fitness: While you don't need to be an Olympic athlete, you should be in good general health and capable of moderate physical activity. Health Declaration: Every participant must sign a health declaration form before departure to ensure we are aware of any pre-existing conditions and can support you effectively.
Food & Accommodation
We carefully select accommodations that offer a blend of comfort and authentic African atmosphere. Depending on the route, you will stay in high-quality lodges, boutique hotels, or well-equipped safari camps. After a day of adventure, we ensure you have a comfortable place to relax, recharge, and enjoy the stunning surroundings.
We believe in a personal, family-like experience. Our groups are typically small and intimate (usually between 8 to 12 participants), ensuring that every traveler receives individual attention and that the group dynamic remains high-quality and connected.
For meals included in the package, we provide a curated "Business Menu" featuring delicious local and international dishes. If you wish to order items outside of this set menu (extra sides, premium dishes, or specific beverages), you are welcome to do so and settle the additional cost directly with the restaurant.
Registration & Cancellations
Registration is easy! You start by paying a deposit of 10% of the tour value or at least 1500 ILS through our secure payment link. Once the deposit is received and you've completed the registration forms (including the health declaration), your spot is officially reserved. The remaining balance must be settled at least 90 days before departure.
We understand that plans can change. Our refund policy is structured as follows: 90–60 days before departure: 80% refund (minus registration fees). 60–30 days before departure: 50% refund (minus registration fees). 30–10 days before departure: 20% refund (minus registration fees). Less than 10 days: No refund. Please refer to our full Terms & Conditions for detailed information.
About 10 days before we take off, we hold a mandatory recorded Zoom meeting. This is a crucial step where we sync expectations, review the final itinerary, assign vehicles, and answer last-minute questions. It's also a great chance to meet your fellow travelers before the journey begins!
Daily Routine & Logistics
Our tours are designed to be an adventure, not a race. On average, we spend about 5 to 7 hours on the road daily, including plenty of stops for coffee, breathtaking photos, wildlife sightings, and lunch. We make sure to reach our accommodations before dark, giving you time to relax, enjoy the lodge facilities, and share stories over dinner.
Yes! Every tour is followed by a dedicated Support Vehicle (Sweep). This vehicle carries your heavy luggage, spare parts, tools, extra fuel, and a comprehensive medical first-aid kit. This means you can ride or drive freely without the weight of your bags, knowing that back-up is always right behind you if you need a break or a mechanical fix.
Currency: While credit cards are widely accepted in cities and lodges, we recommend carrying some cash for small purchases in remote areas. We will guide you on the best places to exchange money upon arrival. Communication: Most lodges offer Wi-Fi in common areas. However, for constant connectivity, we recommend purchasing a local SIM card at the airport. It's affordable and ensures you stay connected throughout the journey. We'll assist you with this during our first day together.
